Niamh Henry Fairy Wish fund nominated charitable fund

14th June 2018

As the 10th anniversary of their daughter Niamh’s death approaches next year, her family feel honoured that Niamh Henry’s Fairy Wish Fund has been nominated by the Newmarket Festival Committee as their main beneficiary for 2018.

Niamh was three years old when she was diagnosed with a rare kidney tumour and after a gruelling year of chemotherapy / surgery and radiotherapy she died just 4 days short of her 4th birthday. The experience devastated her family and changed their lives forever. Enduring childhood cancer so difficult and her parents Aoife and John felt compelled to help other families who are going through the same awful time. However, they can feel rightly proud of Niamh’s legacy.

Niamh’s fairy wish fund was therefore set up by her parents shortly after she died in 2009. Over the past 9 years they have managed to help many children and their families who are going through cancer. The children who receive help are mostly nominated by staff in the cancer unit at Addenbrookes and from there Aoife and John deal with their various requests and wishes. However, their help has also been extended to many children at the West Suffolk Hospital.

The Henry family would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has supported Niamh’s fund to date and they are particularly grateful to the Newmarket Festival Committee for their donations which will help so many families with seriously ill children.
